In today’s Toronto Star:
third-year veteran [John Feugill] has come into training camp with a much-needed 20 extra pounds on his 6-foot-7 frame: he weighed in at 289 pounds. “I’m heavier than five or six of the guys now,” he said, with a touch of pride in his voice.
However, he’s still pounds lighter than mammoth newcomer Damian Lavergne, who came in at 335 pounds. Feugill wasn’t looking to get that heavy, but he decided he needed to come in bigger and stronger this season.
The Argos web stie lists him as 300 pounds. His buddy in next to him on the offensive line is Mike Mihelic, who made a delicious appearance here only a few months ago.

Last night Mark and I went to Chubs in the Tubs, a fatboy barbecue and pool party at Club Toronto.
Late in the evening, six of us were lounging lazily in the hot tub, chatting, laughing, and groping each other, when two muscular, shaved twinks walked by the tub as if to step in. They took one horrified look at us and beat a hasty retreat.

I wish I didn’t keep making the same mistakes over and over again. Sometimes it seems like I never learn.

Mark and I went out to dinner last night with some bear friends who were visiting from out of town. As we were leaving, the waiter asked “Are you guys part of an association? Big guys with beards?”

The New York Times ran an article today trashing Canada and asking “Was Canada Just Too Good to Be True?” The facts in the article are all correct, but some of them are distorted and taken out of context. For example
In fact, Canada, where logging, mining and oil interests are extremely powerful, has a less than sterling environmental record. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Canada produces more nuclear waste per capita than any other member country and ranks as the fourth per capita emitter of carbon dioxide, following the United States, Australia and Luxembourg. Environmental activists say that only Finland and Sweden log more forest land per capita among industrialized countries.
One has to wonder whether the author has ever looked at a map. Seeing as Canada is the second largest country in the world, per capita means nothing when it comes to logging. And does the US really want us to stop developing the oil sands?
Canadian officials constantly lecture Europe and the United States on the need to level the playing field in agriculture for third world producers. But at the same time Canada runs monopolistic dairy product marketing boards that raise tariffs of 200 percent and more to protect its own producers of milk, eggs and butter.
Yes, because milk and eggs are often imported from Africa.
Canada is far from perfect, but many of the criticisms the author levels against Canada could be applied to almost any country. I wonder about this article; it almost seems like the author is saying “See? They’re not so great. We’re doing just fine here. All this stuff about Canada being socially progressive was bullshit because of a sponsorship scandal and tarriffs on eggs! No need to leave!”

Ah, the freak show that is a right-wing, fag-hating religious rally:
Christians, Muslims and Jews shared a stage at Queen’s Park yesterday as thousands rallied to support defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. They came to downtown Toronto, not far from the city’s gay village, to fight the Liberals’ Bill C-38, which would legalize same-sex marriage across the country. … “Gay and lesbian couples just do not have the capacity to physically reproduce,” said Pearce Lacey, the retired Catholic Toronto bishop. “Marriage serves the needs of society by producing new citizens and educating them.” … Another man held a placard that showed a man marrying his dog, which was dressed in a wedding veil. The text read: “Martin, we want our rights.” “In the beginning, God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve,” read another placard. Hundreds waved “Defend Marriage” signs printed by the Knights of Columbus.
In the six years since common-law same-sex marriage was legalized nationwide and in the two years real same-sex marriage was legalized in Ontario, society has already begun to crumble. Already people are marrying their pets.
