Catholic Priest Hypocrisy
Posted by Big Fat Hairy Dave at 11:06 am under News
On July 1, Dr. Henry Morgentaler was awarded the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honour, for his decades of work fighting against Canada’s unconsitutional anti-abortion laws. Yesterday, a Catholic priest who is also a member of the Order of Canada decided that he would rather return his Order of Canada than be associated with Dr. Morgentaler:
Father Lucien Larre, who was inducted into the nation’s highest order in 1983 for his work with troubled youth, said in a news release yesterday that he felt “compelled in conscience to return my Order of Canada.”
The priest, based in Coquitlam, B. C., said he did not want to show disrespect to the Governor-General or to condemn Dr. Morgentaler, but added, “I believe in my heart that he is horribly wrong and the advisory committee made a terrible mistake.”
Too bad he didn’t return his Order of Canada in 1992 when he was convicted of child abuse or last year when his psychologists’ licence was suspended because he posed “an immediate risk to the public”.
Hey, cool. Look what I put in my blog:

Let He Who is Without Sin Cast the First Stone
There’s some Bible stuff for Father Lucien Larre.
What a cunt.
By James, July 3rd, 2008 at 23:29Yeah, that irked me too. His Order of Canada should have been revoked when the news of the abuse, and the suspension of his license came to light. I personally don’t feel that the honour should be bestowed upon Morgantaler. Still, Larre had no business protesting. Catholics should be concerned about assholes like this. That said, media coverage and public perception of Catholicism would suggest that it is perfectly acceptable target of criticism. It seems illogical that Jews and Muslims are off-bounds for such relentless scrutiny.
On the other hand, taking a closer look at the pro-life movement is warranted. Particularly given the news that scientists feel they are close to isolating the ‘gay gene’. I wonder how committed these pro-lifers would be in protecting human life if, say, parents could test their fetus to see if it carried the ‘gay gene’. Most would argue that homosexuality is not genetic, but learned behaviour. Still, if modern science isolates this gene, do you think pro-lifers will make amendments to their philosophy on this basis?
What better way to sway pro-choicers to pro-life arguments, and vice versa. Jesus tapdancing Christ.
