Appparently the federal government wants to maintain its monopoly on medical marijuana. I’m confused. Don’t Conservatives hate socialism?

According to Apple’s web site, they’re donating money to the campaign against Proposition 8, a referendum in California that would repeal same-sex marriage:

Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

Am I the only one who thinks that it’s wrong that corporations should be allowed to donate to political campaigns? The fact that Apple is on the right side of the issue doesn’t make it any less bothersome to me. Democracy should be for people, not corporations.

Mark has been sick since Sunday with a cough and aches and pains. He’s been feeling bad enough that he hasn’t gone to work. I haven’t seen him since Sunday

Yesterday, after he’d already told me he would go to work that night, he texted me: “I called in sick to work. Do you want to come over after work? I’m lonely.” It was touching.

An American conservatard offers clueless commentary on last night’s election:

Yesterday’s Canadian election gives me an opportunity to explore what to me seems an interesting mystery about Canadian politics: Why don’t Canadian Conservatives support Quebec secession?

Oh well.

Take at look at the picture that accompanies this Toronto Star story about the TSX falling. The guy in the upper right is hot and he looks like he’s getting it up the ass really hard.

On the way back from a doctor’s appointment this afternoon, I stopped at a phone store to play with an iPhone that was on display in the window. I tried it out a bit, surfing to sites with the idea that I’d leave it with a penis picture on the screen, but I noticed that the e-mail icon showed 43 new messages. I clicked it to discover the inbox of someone who had logged in and hadn’t logged out. So if anyone is interested, someone named Terry is holding a dick measuring party in Toronto this winter. If you’re not a bear (BMI below 25 required!) and you have a freakishly large penis, send an e-mail to size_survey9@hotmail.com. It’s at the Cambridge Suites!

Closer to home, still on the way back from my appointment, I spotted a cute little guy with a shaved head and a bushy goatee walking down Church street ahead of me. Stopping at the corner of Isabella waiting for the light to change, he looked at me and exclaimed in a gritty voice, “Ah…. bear!” pronouncing it more like beer than bear. I smiled at him, and he asked me how I was doing. When I told him I was doing well, he asked me if I was horny. We ended up going back to his place where I sucked him off. He would have qualified for that party.

Frances Russell in the Winnipeg Free Press tells us what happened after the 1980 election:

A Liberal majority with no western seats ignited western rage. Not only do ongoing unrepresentative and perverse electoral outcomes undermine democratic legitimacy and suppress turnout, they rupture the bonds holding the country together, artificially fomenting regional alienation and fracturing national unity.

Trudeau invited Broadbent to his office for a chat. The NDP had captured 26 of its 32 seats in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and B.C. with about one-third of the vote. Trudeau said he would introduce legislation for proportional representation if the NDP would co-sponsor it.

According to well-placed sources, Broadbent said he would take the proposal to his caucus. The answer was no. Broadbent told the prime minister NDP MPs were afraid of losing their seats. Trudeau declined to forge ahead alone.

Does anything they say matter?
